Why I wrote my new book...

Story time:
During my freshman year of college, I had a good friend (let’s call him Josh) apply to over a thousand internships.
He was a super smart and hardworking computer science major, someone who did everything by the books.
But he didn't hear back from a single one.
I was dumbfounded.
How could someone who did everything right not get any opportunities?
But my friend's experience wasn't a fluke. It's harder to get hired now than it's been in decades. Hiring for college graduates is down 44% from just 3 years ago. The people who do have jobs aren't safe either. Nearly 250,000 tech workers were laid off in 2025 alone, and AI is accelerating all of it.
😬
The approach most people have been using to launch their careers (go to school, get good grades, apply online, and hope someone takes a shot on you) is getting harder every year. The rules have changed, but nobody updated the playbook.
When I was stumbling through my own journey, I found plenty of books on how to stand out in your corporate job, and plenty on how to scale a business. But almost nothing about the messy in-between: how to get your foot in the door in the first place.
So I was left to figure it out on my own through the most foolproof strategy on Earth: trial and error. Over time, that inspired me to write this book.
What’s this book about, you ask?
Great question :)
This book is about creating your own opportunities (rather than waiting for them to happen to you).
In Work With The Best, you'll learn:
• How to figure out what you want and what you'd give up to get it (the North Star Filter)
• How to research any person or company and identify exactly where you can add value (the TAG Method)
• How to get in front of nearly anyone, whether you have a network or not (the Contact Quadrant)
• How to write cold emails that get replies, create content that gets you noticed, and build pitch decks that generate opportunities
Said differently: It’s my cookbook for creating opportunities.
Did I sell ya? Are you convinced? 🙃
What I can say is this: if you've found value in any of my content (whether that be my tweets, my social posts, or my weekly newsletter) and you're STILL reading at the bottom of this email… this book is probably for you.
This is my life's work. I spent the last 5+ years learning these lessons, and I'm so proud to share them with you.
Enjoy!
-Jay
Ps. The window to pre-order your copy (and bonuses) closes September 20th. Once the Kickstarter closes, I’ll be emailing every pre-orderer individually and shipping books out. The book will be available on Amazon September 30th :)
Pps. Shoutout Max W!
